Privacy Policy

Bytetally ("the app", "we") is a network-usage monitor for macOS. Privacy is the whole point of the product, so this policy is short and specific.

The short version

• Bytetally analyses your network traffic entirely on your Mac.
• We never collect or upload the content of your traffic, the sites you visit, or your per-app usage data.
• Bytetally has no account and no login.
• We do not run analytics or advertising SDKs, and we do not track you across apps or websites.

What stays on your device

All traffic accounting — which app used how much bandwidth, over which network, and when — is computed and stored locally on your Mac (inside the app's sandbox container). It is shown only to you, inside the app. It is never transmitted to us or to any third party.

To attribute traffic to apps, Bytetally uses a macOS Network Extension that observes network flows locally on your device. The extension reads flow metadata (such as the owning process and byte counts); it does not record or transmit the contents of your connections.

The only data that leaves your Mac

Bytetally offers optional paid features. Purchases are handled by Apple and by RevenueCat, our in-app purchase provider. When you view or make a purchase:

• Apple processes the transaction under Apple's Privacy Policy. We never see your payment details.
• RevenueCat receives your App Store transaction/receipt and an anonymous app-generated identifier in order to determine whether your subscription or purchase is active across your devices. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy. This is used only to unlock features you paid for — not for advertising or tracking.

These are the only network requests the app itself makes. They contain no browsing history and no traffic data.

Location & Wi-Fi name

If you enable per-Wi-Fi budgets, macOS requires Location permission to read the name (SSID) of the Wi-Fi network you are connected to, so Bytetally can keep separate budgets per network. The network name is stored locally and is never uploaded. Your geographic location is never recorded.

Notifications

If you enable data-cap or anomaly alerts, notifications are generated locally by the app. Their content is never sent to us.

Data retention & deletion

Usage history lives in the app's local database and is trimmed automatically according to your retention setting. Deleting the app removes this data from your Mac. Because there is no account and no server-side copy, there is nothing for us to delete on our end.

Children

Bytetally is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information.
